Frequently Asked Questions

Services

I’ve never used a personal stylist before. What should I expect?

  • You can expect a positive, respectful, welcoming environment where you can be real with us. We will meet you at your comfort level and work to fully understand your needs and desires.

  • First-time clients will start with the 1-hr Style Consultation before booking other services to make sure we get the full picture of your style goals.

  • See our Services page for more details.

How much do your services cost?

  • Styling services are valued at $75 per hour. However, we are committed to providing all services at an affordable rate regardless of budget.

  • Our current pricing model is pay what feels good.

    • What does this mean?

      • If you can pay the $75/hour rate or higher, we encourage you to do so.

      • This rate supports our business needs, but especially our clients and communities from all backgrounds and budgets. Paying the standard rate or more allows us to continue our mission and reach more folks who need our services.

      • If our standard rate is out of your budget but you’re excited to work with us, please pay what feels good for you and your budget! No questions asked.

  • Check out our services here!

How do we book an appointment with you?

  • The best way is to fill out our Appointment Request Form.

    • We’ll respond to your request by email to confirm your appointment and work out any accommodations needed.

  • You can also reach out to us directly at styleforgoodpgh@gmail.com

Can I donate my clothes to you if I’m not a client?

  • Yes! We will happily take your pre-loved items.

  • Schedule a drop-off or pick-up time with the Appointment Request Form or send us an email at styleforgoodpgh@gmail.com.

    • Drop-off at our HQ in Millvale (no cost). We’ll provide the address after scheduling.

    • Pick-up at your home for a suggested fee of $10. We accept Venmo, PayPal, cards, and cash.

  • All donations MUST be freshly washed and free of pet hair or strong odors (perfume, body spray, body odor, smoke, etc.).

Clients

Do I have to know anything about fashion or my own style to book your services?

  • No! We love helping folks identify the things they naturally like and create looks that work for them in their day-to-day lives. We would be thrilled to work with you, regardless of how much (or little) you know about fashion or your own style.

Are there certain styles you won’t work with?

  • No! Bring us your punks, your preps, your glam royalty, and bosses! We love working with all styles and can’t wait to get to know yours.

Are your testimonials from real clients?

  • Yes! Our testimonials are from people who have worked with Style for Good. We greatly appreciate the feedback from our past clients and would love to hear your thoughts about our services, too. Let’s connect!

Are the folks pictured on your site people you’ve actually worked with?

  • Yes and no! As we create more content with our clients, we will phase those photos into our website. We have a mix of client photos and stock photos as of December 2022.

  • We're a young business and we want our pictures to represent the diverse range of clients we're truly excited to work with. It is our goal to showcase images of our actual clients who are cool with being featured. We'd love that to be you!

  • Most of the images on our site right now are from the free stock image library from Pexels.com

  • If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about the representation on our site, please send us an email at styleforgoodpgh@gmail.com. We value your feedback!

What is your Mr. Rogers Policy?

  • The Mr. Rogers Policy is truly at the heart of our business model, both as Pittsburghers and as citizens of the world. We are committed to creating a welcoming environment and community for our clients.

  • We promise to treat you with respect, and expect the same respect extended to us.

  • We understand that clothing, and the sensitive topics connected to it, can be emotional. However, any abusive or disrespectful language or behavior directed at anyone under the Style for Good umbrella (including our online communities) will not be tolerated.

Mission

Why do you care so much about sustainable/ethical/slow fashion?

  • We’ve been involved with fashion long enough to see the wasteful, human rights violating, “cheap or bust” practices that feed our current culture and want to change it.

  • We strongly believe in the fantastic benefits of having the wardrobe you want and need. We know that clothes can be good and do good. We’re determined to work towards both goals equally!

What is “slow” fashion?

  • Slow fashion is an activist movement raising awareness about the destructive impacts of the “fast” fashion industry. It pushes for more sustainable and ethical clothing production and shopping habits. Slow fashion asks people to reflect on how the current industry standards negatively impact the planet and fellow human beings.

Why are clothing swaps part of your business model?

  • The most sustainable, ethical piece of clothing is often the one that already exists! Clothing swaps are a great way for pre-loved pieces to find new homes, instead of being discarded or hoarded.

  • Swaps are an accessible way to find high-quality, investment pieces in a low-cost, sustainable way.

  • Many people find swapping more rewarding than donating because they know their pieces are staying in their community.

  • We plan to host multiple swaps per year, with special incentives for our clients and volunteers, to build a culture of giving your clothes a second life!

How are you making your services more accessible?

  • Our goal is to offer services to every part of Pittsburgh. It’s very important to us that our pricing is attainable for everyone. The number one way we’re making our services more accessible right now is our pay what feels good pricing model.

  • Some ways we hope to increase our accessibility in the future:

    • Partner with local organizations

    • Implement effective sliding-scale pricing

    • Host low-cost clothing swaps
